Annual Catastrophe Reporting

About the report

The Insurance Council’s annual Insurance Catastrophe Resilience Report uses insurer data and insights to review the last 12 months of declared events and advocate for changes to lessen the impact of future extreme weather events.

Now in its sixth year, the report covers:

  • Declared events in the past 12 months, including seven declared events spanning floods, storms, hail and bushfire, alongside the Bondi attack and the Middle East conflict.
  • New analysis from Cotality on rising rebuild costs, showing construction costs have outpaced everyday inflation over the past five years.
  • The tension between Australia’s housing shortage and the need to repair and rebuild homes in the aftermath of extreme weather events
  • The rising cost of extreme weather across bushfire, cyclone, flood, storms and hail.
