On 9 June 2021, a severe storm caused moderate to severe flooding east of Melbourne, in particular Gippsland and surrounding regions and in the Yarra Ranges. The storm brought extremely high winds which resulted in significant felling of trees and consequential property damage.
On Sunday 13 June 2021, the ICA declared an Insurance Catastrophe which activated on-the-ground deployment of disaster specialists to Traralgon, Latrobe, Yarra Ranges and Hepburn in support of recovery centres. The ICA worked closely with Emergency Management Victoria and Bushfire Recovery Victoria to coordinate the disaster recovery effort.
